Meet Georgina

I was born and raised in Winnipeg and have spent most of my life living and working in River Heights Fort Gary ward. I attended Grosvenor Elementary School and Churchill High School before earning degrees in Theatre and Fibre Arts from Concordia University. I later pursued graduate studies in at Cranbrook Academy of Art in Michigan, but home—and family—called me back to Winnipeg.
For more than 40 years, I have been actively involved in grassroots organizations, neighbourhood initiatives, and civic issues. I believe strong communities are built by people who step forward, work together, and find practical solutions.
For the past 15 years, I have worked alongside the residents of River Heights–Fort Garry, helping navigate City Hall, solving local issues, and advocating for neighbourhood priorities. My work at city hall, along with previous work and volunteer experiences with other levels of government has provided me with valuable skills and knowledge on how to bring people together and deliver results.
Community service has always been at the centre of my work. I served for more than 15 years on the Board of Westminster Housing Society, where I helped lead fundraising and governance efforts during a period of significant growth that expanded affordable housing and launched the Good Street housing project.
Earlier in my career, I spent more than a decade teaching drama through community arts programs, beginning at Prairie Theatre Exchange. I continue to believe that the arts, recreation, parks, and community centres create opportunities for people of all ages to connect and thrive.
Outside of work, I'm a lifelong volunteer with the Winnipeg Folk Festival, where I helped develop the now-famous "Tarp Shuffle."
I believe my purpose is to help build community. Whether it's improving parks, supporting local businesses, creating affordable housing, or cutting through bureaucracy at City Hall, I'm committed to making meaningful, lasting improvements for the neighbourhoods we call home.

My Vision For River Heights - Fort Garry

Build a Safe and Strong Community

Everyone deserves to feel safe in their neighbourhood, whether they're walking to the park, cycling to work, or relaxing at home. Safe communities don't happen by accident. They require strong partnerships, responsive services, and a commitment to addressing both immediate concerns and the root causes of crime with compassion.
As your city councillor, my priorities will be:
Working with police to identify hot spots and direct targeted community resources to those areas
Supporting local safety efforts like street lighting improvements and organized neighborhood block walks
Sending community clean-up teams to clear back lanes, add lighting, remove graffiti, clear out abandoned property, and open up lines of sight

Fix Our Streets and Local Services

You invest hard-earned money into your home, and you expect the city to maintain our neighborhoods. For 17 years, I've heard your concerns about aging infrastructure, deteriorating roads, and the need for safer streets.
I am a strong advocate for reliable services and smart investments that protect your property, strengthen our community, and improve quality of life for everyone.
As your city councillor, my priorities will be:
Getting more funding to repair residential roads and back lanes
Updating older sewer systems to prevent basement flooding
Building safer active transportation options for pedestrians and cyclists

Invest in Our Parks, Trees, and Community Centres

Our parks, playgrounds, and green spaces are the heart of our neighbourhoods. They are part of what makes River Heights - Fort Garry such a special place to call home.
Great shared community spaces and healthy trees make our neighborhoods wonderful places to live and raise a family.
As your city councillor, my priorities will be:
Strengthening community centres through enhanced programming and long-term investments
Growing Winnipeg’s tree canopy by protecting the tree budget
Strengthening community centres through enhanced programming and long-term investments

Support Smart Development and Better Housing

As our city grows, we must ensure development is done thoughtfully, responsibly, and with the community's input. Housing security is the foundation of a strong neighbourhood, and we need a strategy that prioritizes both growth and affordability.
As your City Councillor, I pledge to champion smart development and housing solutions by:
Bringing back clear building guidelines to give certainty to both neighbours and developers, ensuring new housing fits while keeping projects moving forward
Advocating for new developments to use thoughtful design and respectful building practices
Organizing early, open discussions between builders and neighbours
